If this hooded tough is meaning to threaten her with gruff language and a bad attitude it won't work.  You don't make it to detective if you can't deal with suspects' postured attempts at intimidation.  Alex keeps her gun level.  She already has a bad feeling about this one and she's not going to take any chances.

"My problem is you sneaking around my crime scene.  Now take your hood off, slowly, and put your hands in the air where I can see them."

(I am also going to do a visual over Roberto and see what kind of clues I can pick up just from looking over him - bruises or cuts or other signs of recent fights, identifying characteristics, peering under the hood, etc)

Roberto was wearing a pair of well worn black Nike running sneakers, a loose dark blue jogging pants, a grey sweatshirt and a black jacket hoodie. His hands were swathed in fingerless gauntlets favored by boxers when doing strength training, his fingers were massive sausages of flesh, the nails neatly trimmed. He wasn't wearing any jewelry that she could see. His partially raised hands had no scars but the inner palm was covered in callouses.

Although she couldn't see his eyes from her vantage point, she could sense he was studying her intently.

"Two things wrong with that statement chica. One no one died on that roof, so it isn't a crime scene. Second, shooting an unarmed man is just what you cops need in this neighborhood. So unless you are going to shoot me you can't hold me for anything."

Instead he glanced over the side to draw her attention to the ground. "It seems a long way down isn't it?"

(How far is it to the ground? If I jump over the side what do I need to land on my feet?)

((To jump to the roof you can make a Strength roll, and if you want you can make a Perception + Athletics to gauge roughly now many successes you'd need to make the jump.  To jump to the ground without taking damage, I'd say a Dex + Athletics roll.  It's about a 20 foot drop))

Taking a step back, he feints to jump over the rail before racing up the steps to the roof, leaving her behind as he looks for a nearby building he can leap to in order to escape.

Will she fall for the bait, thinking that she was the hunter? Lets see how this hound gave chase, he thought was he commanded the blood to flow into his dead muscles.

Whether it was because she was suspicious or because he was a lousy liar, she could clearly see that he wasn't planning to jump. His body language and stance clearly pointed to him running which is exactly what he did up the stairs but there was nowhere else to go once he got to the roof.....or was there?

Alex has been poised on edge from the moment she took gauge of Roberto.  Something about him read funny business, and with all her physical and mental training she was ready to act as soon as he slowed the slightestly suspicious bit of movement.

Roberto dodges left to evade her but Alex reacts immediately.  She lunges at him, her hand flying out and grabbing for his bulky hooded sweatshirt and yanking him back.  Big problem he made:  he tried to run.  If she couldn't take him in before, she can now.  "Get down on the ground NOW!" she barks as she presses her elbow into his back and throws her weight against him.

The minute she plans her elbow into his back, instinct took over as he effortlessly uses her momentum against her. Using his superior strength, he flips her over his shoulder breaking the hold.

(If she will attempt to subdue him again, he would dodge her attack, all the while heading down the steps if the way is clear. If it is blocked he would stop and look for possible escape route.)

((You won't be able to throw her without another kind of check; the Brawl check just allows you to break her hold on you, that's all.  Anything offensive would be another roll.  Right now its your turn so you can decide what to do -- run, fight, whatever [The Hold check being reflexive, you still have an action].  You guys don't need Initiative rolls right now since the readied action automatically puts Alex's actions after yours from now on.  For purposes of layout, I'm going to assume Alex is still standing near the stairs heading down, though she's no longer holding onto Roberto.  The way back up to the roof is still clear))

Slipping past her grasp, he saw that there was no way he could pass her without a fight and although he would love nothing better, now wasn't the time to dance with pigs.

Unable to resist laughing at delight at the challenge, he bounds up the stairs to the roof where he builds up speed to leap to the roof of a nearby building.

Running from the police is really not the best way to alleviate suspicion.  In Alex's book the hooded figure has just gone from strange individual of interest to suspect number one.  "I said stop right there!" Alex shouts as she bolts after him.  Her mind is racing and adrenaline is pumping into her.  This is the chase, the hunt, the pursuit that ultimately all detectives are made and trained for.  Everything else, from finding clues to grilling witnesses, is essentially a lead up to this point.  The collar is almost an anticlimax.

Alex tears up the fire escape after Roberto.  Her shoe slips on the stairs and her foot goes out from under her.  She falls to one knee and scrambles back up to her feet, watching Roberto's back as he races to the roof.

Sounds of pounding footsteps, signaled pursuit as he reached the rooftop first. Unable to contain himself he laughs out aloud as he runs at full speed towards the edge before throwing himself through the air, limbs cartwheeling before he lands with a thump on the roof of a neighboring building.


"Try that one for size, cop." as he continued running towards the fire escape and freedom.
